HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Two men were arrested Tuesday after a deputy alerted by suspicious activity found a weapon, thousands in cash and drugs in an SUV they were driving, according to a State Police news release.
The incident took place at about 2 p.m., as a trooper was conducting an unrelated traffic stop in the Southland Mall parking lot off of LA 24. As the Trooper returned to his patrol vehicle, he saw a man, later identified as 39-year-old Horace Scott Jr., standing on top of a black 2004 Infiniti SUV trying to pry open the sun roof.
Before the trooper could reach the Infiniti, Scott and another man, 35-year-old David Voclain Jr., were able to get into the SUV and drive off.
The trooper caught up with and stopped the vehicle. Voclain, the SUV's owner, told the trooper that he had locked his keys inside the vehicle and had to break in. As the trooper continued to speak with the men, he smelled marijuana and saw a handgun in plain sight. A Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 unit was called to the scene and the dog alerted to the presence of drugs.
A search of the vehicle yielded six plastic bags of suspected heroin, a small amount of marijuana, a loaded Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun and more than $3,200 in cash hidden under the center console. Troopers additionally discovered 10 packs of the controlled substance Suboxone in Voclain's pants.
Voclain had been arrested less than a month ago prior by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office on drug and weapon charges and was out on bond awaiting trial.
Both Voclain and Scott were arrested and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on the following charges:
