Police: Man beaten with shovel in 9th Ward

Police are asking for the public's help to find a man accused of beating another man with a shovel.

According to police, the victim was walking on the 1400 block of Poland Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 when the suspect exited a red pickup truck and began walking towards him. He and the suspect engaged in a verbal altercation at which point the suspect pulled out a shovel and beat the victim. The victim was left with a broken arm and lacerations to his head. He is recovering from his injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male, 55-to-59 years old, about 5'10" tall with salt-and-pepper hair. He was last seen wearing long khaki pants and a short sleeve striped shirt.
