The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirms a human case of West Nile Virus in Luling.
The Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory has also confirmed chicken blood samples have tested positive for virus in Paradis, Destrehan, St. Rose New Sarpy and Des Allemands.
Mosquito Control Services Inc. personnel have increased spraying and other abatement measures in the area. All residents are urged to avoid mosquito bites by avoiding being outside at dawn and dusk, wearing pants and long sleeves and using insect repellent containing deet.
To eradicate mosquito breeding sites, be sure to dump out any standing water in yards.
