JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested a 14-year-old for an armed robbery on an elderly woman. Police are also searching for Brian Rodas, 22, in connection to the incident.
The incident occurred Monday in the Woodmere subdivision in Gretna.
Police say that the teen and Rodas pretended that their car had broken down. The 14-year-old asked for help from the 73-year-old woman who lived nearby. The victim allowed the teen inside her home and as she went to retrieve her phone. Officers say Rodas entered the house and pointed a gun at the victim, threatening to shoot. The pair took a computer, jewelry and two televisions, according to police.
Following the robbery the suspects drove off in a light-colored vehicle. Soon afterwards, the victim's credit card was used at a video store. Surveillance from the store captured the two suspects and the woman positively identified the pair in the video.
JPSO Lt. Joe Ortego of the Juvenile Assessment Center helped detectives positively identify the 14-year-old. Police arrested the teen Monday night at his mother's Marrero home. At the time of the arrest, he was wearing the same clothes that he was wearing during the robbery. He denied any involvement in the robbery when asked by police.
Police are still searching for Rodas. Police have searched his two listed addresses, 5128 Dueling Oaks, Marrero and 4048 Deerpark Drive, Harvey, with negative results.
