His 5-year-old son was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Thibodaux. Now, a Jefferson Parish man faces an additional slew of charges following a toxicology report.

Additional charges have now been filed against Yonni Matthews, 27, for vehicular homicide and DWI. Toxicology reports from the Louisiana State Police Crime lab revealed that he was over the legal limit when the accident occurred, police say.

Matthews is also facing charges for negligent homicide, five counts of vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, operating a vehicle with a suspended license and a child passenger restraint violation.

Officers state that the accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. October 4 as Matthews drove his 2014 Hyundai Elantra into the rear of a Honda Pilot. The crash sent the Honda into the rear of a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Witnesses reported prior to the crash that Matthews was driving in a reckless manner.

Matthews, his 5-year-old son and passengers in both of the other vehicles were rushed to the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. The 5-year-old child died from his injuries at the hospital.

Investigators state that narcotics and paraphernalia were recovered from Matthews' vehicle. A blood sample was taken at the hospital for a toxicology report.

Matthews is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $320,375 bond.
