HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - The trash pile was approximately 10 feet high and 25 feet wide, discarded in the middle of the roadway.
Terrence Ruffin, 31, was arrested on Tuesday morning. The Houma dump truck driver allegedly attempted to flee police when confronted by officers.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint Friday afternoon in reference to a large pile of trash dumped in the roadway on Jude Street in Dularge. Patrolmen state that it appeared as though a truck dumped its load partially on the roadway.
Detectives say they determined Monday morning that the load was discarded on the roadway by a dumpster truck driver from Better Waste Disposal. The driver was identified as Terrence Ruffin, 31, of Houma.
Officials arrested Ruffin early Tuesday morning. Police say he attempted to flee on foot and further resisted arrest.
Ruffin was taken into custody and charged with gross littering, obstruction of a roadway and resisting an officer.
He was jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he awaits a bond hearing.
Representatives from Better Waste Disposal did send a clean-up crew to the site and cleaned the discarded trash. Ruffin allegedly reported that he accidentally discarded the load of trash in the roadway and did not want to wait for a clean-up crew to assist him.
