2 Belle Chasse 8th graders arrested on drug charges

BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - Two 13 year-old 8th graders at Belle Chasse Middle School have been arrested for possession of prescription drugs on school campus, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.

Police say school administrators contacted the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and reported that they had received several tips of drug activity at the school. Acting on the tip, school personnel launched an investigation and recovered five Adderall prescription pills from one 8th grader's possession.

Administrators continued their investigation and recovered nine additional Adderall pills from a second 8th grader.

At least one student was distributing the drugs to fellow students.

Both students were arrested. One was charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a CDS in a drug free zone. The other was charged with possession of a CDS and possession of a CDS in a drug free zone. They were later released to their parent's custody pending a court hearing.

Police say additional arrests are possible as other classmates are believed to be involved.
