8-year-old girl injured, man killed in Marrero shooting

A 29-year-old man is dead and a young girl is wounded following a shooting in Marrero.

It happened in the 1100 block of Dimarco Drive in Marrero around 9 p.m.

Deputies say there are at least three different crime scenes on the street because of the nature of the shooting. Witnesses say they heard at least three shots fired.

The young girl, 8, was sitting on a front porch with a friend when gunfire erupted, police say. Deputies believe a stray bullet struck her in the upper back.

A 29-year-old man was killed at the scene. The dead victim's car is missing. It is described as a four-door, Ponticac G6. The vehicle was followed out of the neighborhood by a black Audi.

"We're not certain as to whether or not this was maybe a carjacking," explained Col. John Fortunato. "He may have been the victim of a carjacking. Again, we're still trying to determine what happened, but we know that vehicle is not here on scene and was followed out of this neighborhood by a black Audi."

Deputies have not released a motive or suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
