A high school teacher is in jail after detectives discovered he was having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.
Dominic Lewis, 32, was a teacher at Joseph Clark High School. New Orleans police said they discovered he was sending inappropriate text messages to the girl on Oct. 16. During their investigation, it was revealed that Lewis and the teenager were having sex, police said.
Lewis was arrested Thursday (Oct. 23) at 8:15 a.m. and booked into jail for carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
FirstLine Schools, which manages Joseph Clark High School, released this statement:
"We have sadly learned that a (former) FirstLine staff member has allegedly engaged in improper conduct with a minor. We take matters such as these very seriously, and have taken the appropriate steps necessary to address this situation. Mr. Lewis was terminated prior to his arrest on Thursday and is no longer employed by FirstLine Schools. We are cooperating with the authorities and will be monitoring the outcomes very closely."
It is unclear how long the alleged relationship had been going on.
