Louisiana State Police patrolling the French Quarter will phase out following a busy Halloween weekend.
The 100 additional troopers were assigned to the area following a mass shooting on Bourbon Street in June. The shooting claimed the life of Brittany Thomas, 21, and injured nine others.
State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson stressed on Wednesday that the troops are not abandoning New Orleans.
He adds that state troopers will be willing to return if the Mayor Mitch Landrieu asked.
Trooper Melissa Matey says state patrols will still lend an extra hand in the French Quarter during major events and holidays.
