RTA steps up to meet weekend demand

The following is a news release outlining the RTA's plans to meet anticipated high demand this weekend:

The RTA anticipates high ridership for the Halloween weekend as a result of many holiday activities scheduled in the city. The agency is prepared to meet the needs of residents who rely on public transportation for their daily commutes and of locals and visitors participating in weekend events.

On Thursday, 10/30/14 the holiday parade is scheduled to roll at 6:30pm in the CBD area. During the parade, the following routes will be on detour: #5 Marigny ByWater, #10 Tchoupitoulas, #11 Magazine, #16 S. Claiborne, #55 Elysian Fields, Canal Streetcar, #49 Loyola/UPT, and #12 St. Charles streetcar.

CANAL STREETCAR LINE – Cut back at Liberty and Canal. There will be no service between Liberty and the River during the Parade.

LOYOLA (UPT) LINE – The Loyola (UPT) Line will be replaced with buses, using the following route:

INBOUND – UPT to Loyola Avenue, to Canal Street, to Liberty Street. Line will end at Canal and Liberty.

OUTBOUND – From Liberty and Canal to Loyola to UPT. There will be no service on the Loyola (UPT) Line between Loyola and the River.

ST. CHARLES LINE – Will end at Lee Circle until the parade clears Canal Street. There will be no service in the St. Charles Loop, from Carondelet and Howard to St. Charles and Howard, INBOUND AND OUTBOUND. Shuttle buses will be utilized to get passengers to Canal Street using the following route:

INBOUND – Carondelet to Common. Common will be the last stop before Canal Street.

OUTBOUND – From Carondelet and Common to left on Common, to left on Baronne, to left on Poydras, to right on St. Charles, back to regular route to Howard Avenue.

ELYSIAN FIELDS – Will cut back at Decatur and Esplanade. There will be no service on Decatur between Esplanade and Canal until after the parade has cleared Decatur Street.

MARIGNY/BYWATER – Bus will pull in from Decatur and Esplanade at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014. There will be no service on the Marigny until Friday, October 31, 2014 beginning with first am pull-out.

TCHOUPITOULAS – Will cut back at Poydras Street until parade clears Canal Street

INBOUND – From Tchoupitoulas left on Calliope to right on Camp to right on Poydras to right on Magazine.

OUTBOUND – From Magazine to left on Calliope to right on Tchoupitoulas to regular route

MAGAZINE – Will end at Poydras and Camp until parade clears Canal Street.

S. CLAIBORNE – From Poydras left on Loyola to right on Canal to right on S. Rampart back to Poydras to regular route. Until parade clears Canal Street.

Beginning Friday, 10/31/14 through Sunday, 11/2/14 festival events will take place in City Park. The RTA anticipates increased ridership and will be on standby to enhance service on the following impacted routes as demand dictates; streetcar service will be enhanced on the #48 Canal/City Park and buses will be added to the #48 Canal (City Park) streetcar route, additional bus service will be added to #91 Jackson/Esplanade, #32 Carrollton/Treme and additional streetcars will be added to #12 St. Charles line.
