Deputies: Detroit murder suspect arrested with bumblebee costume in Chalmette

Damian Jones, 23 Damian Jones, 23

A man wanted for murder in Detroit was arrested at a Chalmette costume shop carrying a bumblebee costume, deputies say.

Damian Jones, 23, was arrested Wednesday afternoon outside of a Halloween costume shop in the 800 block of West Judge Perez Drive.

He was wanted for an October 4 murder in the Detroit area. Tianna Callaway, 22, was also arrested. She allegedly fled Michigan with the suspect, officers say.

Deputies from the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office say Jones was carrying a bumblebee costume from the store when he was arrested.

Officers first received information on a vehicle wanted in connection to the Detroit murder. The vehicle was believed to be heading into St. Bernard Parish and the suspect was believed to still be using it, deputies say. Officers say they were able to quickly locate the vehicle outside of the costume shop.

Callaway allegedly has connections in the New Orleans area where the pair was staying, deputies state. Officials say they do not know why the pair was shopping in Chalmette.

Jones has been booked into the St. Bernard Parish Prison as a fugitive. He appeared before a judge Thursday morning where he waived an extradition fight. Jones is expected to be returned to Michigan for prosecution.

Callaway was booked in St. Bernard Parish as an accessory after the fact. She was being held Thursday in lieu of bond set at $10,000.
