NOPD: 16-year-old student raped on school campus

Someone raped a 16-year-old student while she was on the campus of Lusher Charter School, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Officers said it happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 5600 block of Freret Street in the Uptown area.

The NOPD said it does not have a description of the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators did not release any information about the condition of the victim.

Lusher Charter School has students from kindergarten to 12th grade on two campuses. It only has middle and high school students at the Freret campus. The school sent the following letter to parents on Friday:

We have been informed this afternoon by NOPD that last night there was an alleged sexual assault of a 16 year-old female by an unknown male on the Freret Campus.

This is an ongoing investigation and we are working with NOPD.  The safety of our students is our top priority.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.
