Family displaced after 2-alarm fire

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Several residents at Metairie's Bellemont Apartments are displaced after a fire roared through an apartment building. It happened in the 6300 block of Riverside Drive.

Jefferson Parish Fire Department says they were called out to the scene around 4:30 a.m. Neighbors say the fire started in a corner apartment, but the smoke and the smell was so bad, the entire building had to be evacuated.

"It was bad," Alfredo Seguenza said. "We really didn't have time to get out. The firefighters and the police were like 'get out, get out.' We didn't have time to grab clothes really. We just had to walk out."

Crews got the fire under control an hour later. Red Cross had to find housing for several of the tenants there. Jefferson Parish Fire says the cause is still under investigation.
