ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A 4-year-old boy is dead following a crash in Assumption Parish.
Louisiana State Police say that the young boy was not properly restrained at the time of the crash.
The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday on LA 309 in Assumption Parish. Officers state that 22-year-old Toniska Willoughby was driving just south of the LA Spur 70 when her vehicle traveled off of the road. Police say the vehicle entered a ditch and struck a culvert.
Cason Willoughby, the driver's 4-year-old son and front seat passenger, was killed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner's Office. Police say he was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was only utilizing the lap portion of the seat belt.
Toniska Willoughby was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
