CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - St. Bernard Parish District Attorney Jack Rowley died Wednesday. He was 83.
Rowley passed away at his home early Wednesday evening. The exact cause of death is not known, but Assistant District Attorney Glenn Diaz said he had been battling medical issues for some time and had been and out of the hospital recently.
Rowley announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election Nov. 4. Last night, the parish elected a new DA for the first time in more than three decades.
Rowley was elected sheriff in 1962 and moved on to the district attorney's office in 1979. He is the only district attorney St. Bernard's 34th Judicial District has had since it was separated from Plaquemines Parish's district, according to NOLA.com | The times-Picayune.
There was no immediate word on funeral arrangements.
