VIOLET, LA (WVUE) - Scouring the woods for several hours, St. Bernard Parish sheriffs arrested two men wanted for an armed robbery at a Violet service station.
The men were caught about an hour apart on Wednesday. One was captured in a wooded area around 3 p.m. The second was caught around 4 p.m. in the woods near the Violet Canal.
Russo Vinson, 33, and Kenneth Augustin, 24, were arrested. Money believed to be stolen during the robbery was recovered from Vinson, deputies say.
Helicopters searched for hours following the 10 a.m. armed robbery in the 6200 block of East St. Bernard Highway in Violet. No one was injured in the robbery.
St. Bernard deputies, along with canines and officers from the Slidell Police Department and St. Tammany Sheriff's Office as well as helicopters from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.
Deputies say they spotted a Lincoln matching a vehicle description given by witnesses. Two men were inside.
Deputies chased the Lincoln to the end of General Pershing Street in Violet, which dead-ends into a canal, deputies say. For hours, deputies and search dogs combed the woods and helicopters searched overhead. There was no sign of either man, officials state, until hours later.
Both suspects were booked with armed robbery and resisting arrest.
