NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - St. Bernard Parish President Dave Peralta pleaded not guilty to a felony stalking charge Monday morning in St. Tammany Parish.

Peralta is accused of cyber stalking his ex-wife Sharon Schaefer.

A grand jury in September indicted Peralta on the charges after investigators found evidence that he intimidated a witness, in this case his ex-wife.

Peralta also faces a charge of sexual battery in St. Bernard Parish. Schaefer claims Peralta raped her in October 2013 while the two were still married.

Peralta said he is not guilty of either crime.

On Monday morning, he pleaded not guilty at the Covington courthouse. His attorney, Martin Regan, says he's restricted from making any further comment on the incident.
