LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Vacherie man was arrested Friday for cruelty to a juvenile in connection with an incident that left a toddler with a broken nose and bruises on his face.
Lance Michael Cortez, 22, was released on Saturday after posting $100,000 bond.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a Raceland hospital after the toddler was brought to the emergency room with a broken nose and bruises in the shape of a handprint.
Through investigation, detectives learned that the child's injuries had allegedly been caused by Cortez, a man known to the child's mother. Detectives made contact with Cortez on Friday, and during questioning, Cortez denied hitting the child but told detectives he had grabbed the child's face at one point to get the child's attention.
Due to the nature of the case and the age of the victim, no further details will be released, the Sheriff's Office said.
