Fiery crash leaves 3 dead in Terrebonne Parish

TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Three people are dead following a fiery crash in Terrebonne Parish.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday on LA 24 near St. George Street in Schriever, LA.

State troopers say that Jordon Mayon, 19, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram northbound at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred. Police say that Mayon failed to maintain control of his vehicle while going through a curve.

The Dodge rotated counter-clockwise as it traveled off the left side of the roadway. Police say the vehicle began to overturn as it entered into the southbound lanes of LA 24.

Kenderic Prince, 30, was driving southbound on LA 24 at the time. Police say he was unable to avoid crashing into the overturned Dodge.

Following impact, both vehicles became engulfed in flames.

Mayon, Prince and Shannon Tassin, a 54-year-old passenger in Prince's vehicle, were not able to escape.

They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office.

Due to the extent of damage from the fire, troopers were unable to determine if seat belts were used during the crash.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
