Man arrested for tampering with his electronic monitoring device

Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man after he tampered with his monitoring device and fled the area.

Police say that 38-year-old Tellas Huff, who was in the Electronic Monitoring Program tampered with his device on Friday. OPSO deputies began searching for Tellas after receiving a monitoring device tamper alert. Deputies reached out for assistance from other local law enforcement agencies.

Huff was located in Denham Springs and taken into custody without incident, according to police. He was transported back to New Orleans where he was processed into Orleans Parish Prison. Huff received the monitoring device in October after being charged with auto theft. He is now facing new charges for criminal damage to property and tampering with an electronic monitoring device. In addition, he will be charged with unauthorized use of a moveable once OPSO deputies work with the NOPD to obtain more information about the car that Huff was driving.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman said, "The deputies assigned to our Electronic Monitoring Team deserve praise for following all leads, working closely with other law enforcement agencies and remaining focused until this EMP client was apprehended and back in custody."
