Fair Grounds thoroughbred racing season kicks off Friday

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Thoroughbred racing returns to the Fair Grounds on Friday to open its 143rd season.

The 81-day meet includes 47 stakes worth $5.73 million, headlined by Louisiana Derby Day on March 28. Opening Day on Friday features Starlight Racing.

The season kicks off Friday with first post at 5 p.m. and doors opening at 3:30 p.m. Live music from The Boogie Men and DJ Kemistry will provide entertainment for the White Out Party Friday night.

General admission to the Miller Time Beer Garden is $10. Grandstand general admission is $5.

Live racing will continue through Sunday with post times of 1:35 p.m.
