NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The vehicle that went into Lake Pontchartrain during a multiple vehicle accident on the Causeway Bridge was recovered from the lake.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office the vehicle was driving south bound at about 10:30 a.m. this morning when it left the travel lane and flipped over the railing near the 16 mile marker.
Divers from the STPSO searched the area in boats and located the vehicle a short time later near the draw bridge, according to a release from the STPSO. The driver, believed to be the lone occupant, was found dead inside the vehicle.
The body was turned over the the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's office for identification.
The southbound side of the Causeway reopened to traffic around 2:00 p.m. Sunday
