NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Several employees of a French Quarter gumbo restaurant tackled an attempted robber armed with a sawed-off shotgun, police say.
The attempted armed robbery occurred around 10:45 p.m. Sunday at Gumbo Shop, a restaurant located in the 600 block of St. Peter Street.
Officers say that a suspect, identified as 30-year-old Benny Walker, walked into the business and went upstairs to the manager's office.
Armed with a sawed-off shotgun, the suspect allegedly demanded money from the safe.
At this time, police say that several employees jumped the suspect, disarmed him and held him down until units arrived on the scene.
Walker was taken into custody and charged with three counts of armed robbery, three counts of armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a firearm and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
