NOPD: Woman carjacked in Gentilly with baby inside; child found safe

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Police say that a woman pumping gas in Gentilly was carjacked with her 1-year-old child still inside.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. Thursday at a Chevron service station, located in the 3400 block of Franklin Avenue.

The victim states she saw a young black male jump into driver's seat and drive off with her 1-year-old daughter still inside.

Officers say that the vehicle and the child were found safe nearly 45 minutes later. The car and child were found abandoned near the intersection of Hope and Touro Streets in the Seventh Ward.

The child was unharmed.

The suspect has been described as a black male in his late teens. Police say he has a thin build and was last seen wearing a white skull cap, blue sweater and blue jeans.
