METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - It was a quick turnaround at Lakeside Mall. Closing doors at midnight following a busy Thanksgiving Day, the mall re-opened its doors at 6 a.m. Black Friday.
There was no crush of early morning shoppers. Rather, the number of deal-seekers grew steadily as the day progressed.
Mall management says some stores had requested the Thanksgiving night start. Retailers at the mall were given the option to open Thanksgiving. Many seemed pleased with the option.
"As a mall, it it's our job to support the retailers," said Tricia Phillpott, Assistant General Manager at Lakeside Mall. "A lot of these retailers have come to us and said 'we want to open, we feel like our customers would like for us to open on Thursday and we have big goals and big plans for this weekend please help us meet these goals.' So, as a landlord, we made a decision that we would open the mall doors at 5 p.m. for customers to come in and we gave our stores the option of opening at 6 p.m. We required the stores open until 6 a.m. [Black Friday] morning."
The mall remains open until 9 p.m. Friday night.
