NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Two suspects are wanted on kidnapping charges, accused of stealing a car in Gentilly with a 1-year-old child inside.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, allegedly went inside a Gentilly gas station. She left her vehicle running with her 1-year-old child still inside as she went to pay for gas.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday at a Chevron service station, located in the 3400 block of Franklin Avenue.

As the victim exited the store, she observed a man jump into her silver 2007 Nissan Murano and flee south on Franklin Avenue. The victim tells police she saw the suspect with a female inside the store when she had gone in to pay for the gas.

Officers say that the vehicle and the child were found safe a short time later. The car and child were found abandoned near the intersection of Hope and Touro Streets in the Seventh Ward.

The child was unharmed.

Through surveillance video obtained by detectives, the male and female could be seen walking into the store. After exiting, the suspects walked towards Franklin Avenue. The male suspect jumped into the vehicle and fled.

The male suspect has been described as a black male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt under a gray jacket and blue jeans.

The female suspect was described as a black female wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
