New Orleans Police are investigating a hit and run that left a two-year-old boy dead. The incident occurred Sunday at 5:15 p.m. in the 3100 block of Claiborne Avenue in the St. Claude neighborhood.

According to police, the child was struck by a pickup truck after running into the street. The driver stopped and got out of the truck, looked at the child, then got back into the vehicle and drove off, police say.

The child was brought to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man driving the vehicle is described as an African-American man with a dark complexion. He was wearing a dark blue shirt and dark pants. Witnesses say that the vehicle he was driving was an older-model two-door white Chevrolet.
