Assault and hunting rifles among 30 firearms missing from Port Sulphur home

PORT SULPHUR, LA (WVUE) -

Approximately 30 firearms, including high-powered assault and hunting rifles, were allegedly stolen from a residence in Port Sulphur.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office was notified of the missing firearms around 11:45 a.m. Saturday. The victim reports that two large safes were stolen from the residence in the 30000 block of Highway 23. The incident is believed to have occurred between 12:30 p.m. Friday and 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

The safes allegedly contained approximately 30 weapons, which included high-powered assault and hunting rifles. Deputies say there was no forced entry to the home and it is believed that the residence was left unlocked.

Deputies say that estimated value of the missing firearms is $30,000.

“There are a large number of assault and high-powered rifles on the streets and we want to make sure they don't wind up in the wrong hands,” Sheriff Lonnie Greco stated in a press release. “We are requesting anyone with information on this investigation to please contact our detectives or Crimestoppers.”
