NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An Orleans Parish jury worked into the early morning hours to convict a man in the death of a Good Samaritan.
Kendall Harrison, 20, was found guilty of second degree murder and armed robbery. The verdict came down just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Harrison shot and killed Harry 'Mike' Ainsworth on January 25, 2012.
Police say that Harrison pulled a gun on a woman as she was getting into her vehicle in Algiers Point.
Officers say Ainsworth was standing at a bus stop with his two children when he heard screams for help. Ainsworth ran from a bus stop to help the woman and jumped on the hood of the car. After a struggle, Harrison fired through the front window of the car, striking Ainsworth
A neighbor described the scene.
"I just saw him laying there. But I know [his children] were crying their eyes out – daddy, daddy, daddy - and I got them away from it because I didn't want them to see that," explained Al Schmitt, the victim's neighbor.
Harrison could be sentenced to life in prison.
