Victim identified in deadly New Orleans East double shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 23-year-old woman is dead following a double shooting in New Orleans East. The Orleans Parish Coroner has identified the victim as Jakia Evans.

The shooting happened at about 3 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Dwyer Road and Shalimar Drive.

Police said the woman was found shot multiple times inside a silver Volvo and pronounced dead on the scene. A 20-year-old man had been shot in the back and was taken to University Hospital. His condition and name is unknown.

Early reports indicated that a third victim showed up at the hospital, but detectives have since learned that there is no third victim.

Investigators have not released a motive or suspect in the case. Homicide Detective Gregory Johnson is in charge of the investigation. He can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
