Metairie man shot, killed after breaking into ex-girlfriends home

RIVER RIDGE, LA (WVUE) -

A man was shot and killed after breaking in to his ex-girlfriends house and waking her current boyfriend up at gunpoint.

According to a release sent by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, 35-year-old Karen Collins and her boyfriend Robert Esteves, 32, returned to their home in the 9000 block of Sharla Drive after a Christmas party and went to bed.  Collins told police that later that night, her ex-boyfriend, 44-year-old Bobby Edler, entered the home and ordered her and Esteves out of bed at gunpoint.

Edler led them to the front door, at which point Esteves grabbed a shotgun and fired at least two shots, killing him.

Esteves was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm at a nearby hospital and was brought in by police for questioning. No charges have been filed and the case is still under investigation.
