Woman beaten with revolver, robbed on Frenchmen Street

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A woman was beaten with a revolver and robbed along Frenchmen Street early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. New Orleans police say that the victim was walking northbound on Frenchmen Street near the N. Rampart Street intersection when the incident occurred.

Officers say that the woman was suddenly attacked from her rear by a male suspect. He allegedly attempted to pull the purse from the victim, but struggled as the purse was strapped around the victim's chest.

The suspect allegedly began to strike the victim multiple times in the head with a silver revolver. As the victim fell to the ground, police say the suspect snatched the purse and fled the scene.

The suspect then fled westbound on N. Rampart Street to a getaway vehicle. That vehicle fled the location northbound on Frenchmen Street. Police say the vehicle is possibly a 2006 blue Chrysler Town and Country van.

The suspect has been described as a black male in his 20s. He had a thin build and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood lifted over his head, police say.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact detectives at (504) 658-6080 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
