NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 46-year-old man was beaten and robbed by four suspects along Canal Street near Saenger Theatre.
Police have arrested four suspects, including two juvenile girls, in the incident. Raheim Dimes, 19, and Abanobi Lawes, 18, were arrested along with two female juveniles, ages 15 and 16.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Canal Street and Burgundy Street. Officers say that a man, 46, was walking toward Saenger Theatre when the four suspects approached him.
New Orleans police say Lawes punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground. At this time, Dimes started kicking him repeatedly, police say. The teen girls allegedly went through the victim's pockets and took $65 in cash and fled toward Tulane Avenue.
The victim was not seriously injured in the attack.
Plain clothes detectives working surveillance allegedly saw the suspects wrestling with the victim. They chased the suspects down and apprehended them in the 200 block of South Saratoga Street. The victim positively identified the suspects.
Both Dimes and Lawes were booked into Central Lock-up and charged with one count of simple battery, one count of simple robbery and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
The two juveniles were booked into the Juvenile Bureau and charged with simple robbery and one count of simple battery.
Detectives believe the suspects are responsible for similar robberies in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
