HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A Chauvin man was arrested Sunday after he was found with drugs, cash and a loaded handgun, according to the Terrbonne Parish Sheriff's Office.
At 1:50 a.m. sheriff's deputies were patrolling on East Main Street when a deputy made a traffic stop at the intersection of East Main Street and Authement Street in Houma.
During the stop, a deputy said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana in 28-year-old Derik Dean Marie's car. A search of the car yielded a loaded handgun, more than $13,000 in cash, 18 oxycodone pills and 1.91 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $2,865.
Marie was booked with failure to dim bright lights, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a weapon in the presence of narcotics, illegal proceeds derived from drug transactions and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.
Marie in jailed in Terrebonne Parish on a $150,000 bond.
