LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A teenager and another person broke into a LaPlace house and stole presents from under the Christmas tree, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to the 200 block of Elm Street on Friday around 10:30 a.m. after the report of a burglary in progress. Someone was passing by a relative's house and noticed someone standing in an open doorway. The family member stopped and confronted two people. At that point, the suspected burglars ran away.
When the resident of the house arrived, she noticed several presents under the Christmas tree were opened and several electronic device were missing.
During the investigation, detectives identified one of the suspects as a 15-year-old boy from LaPlace. He was arrested Friday and booked with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and simple criminal damage to property. He is being held at the Assumption Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
Investigators are still looking for the second person involved in the crime.
