ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a "jury duty" phone scam.
The sheriff said Tuesday that it has received several reports about a caller telling people they face arrest because they missed jury duty. The caller tells people they can avoid arrest if they pay a fine.
On at least one occasion, the caller purported to be with law enforcement and gave a rank with his name.
The Sheriff's Office said it is not not making these calls and advises anyone who receives such a call to take down caller ID information and a name, if possible, and report it to the Sheriff's Office.
