Pedestrian struck, killed retrieving ladder from highway

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A pedestrian was struck and killed on Monday evening while attempting to retrieve a ladder that fell from the back of his truck.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday on US-190 northbound between Judge Tanner Blvd. and I-12 in St. Tammany Parish.

Joseph Robinson, 27 of Lacombe, was killed. Preliminary investigation revealed that Robinson was wearing dark clothing while attempting to retrieve a ladder that fell from the back of his truck, according to Louisiana State Police.

Timothy Greenlay, 64 of Mandeville, was traveling northbound on US-190 in the center lane when he struck Robinson, troopers say. Robinson was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Greenlay and his 14-year-old passenger were both restrained and received no injuries, officials say. He submitted to a breath test which indicated there was no alcohol in his system.

Troopers say impairment is not suspected on Robinson's part. However, a toxicological analysis is pending. This crash remains under investigation.
