Thibodaux man killed in three-car crash on La. 311

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A Thibodaux man was killed last night on LA 311 after losing control of his vehicle in a three-car crash.

According to Louisiana State Police, a 2002 Honda Accord driven by 34-year-old Chad Labat was heading south on La. 311 just north of Equity Boulevard. For unknown reasons, Labat crossed the center line and entered the opposite lane of traffic and struck a 2015 Honda Accord driven by 53-year-old Kirk Craig.

The collision caused Labat's car to break into three pieces and he was ejected from the vehicle on impact. One of the pieces of Labat's car struck a 1994 Chevrolet truck driven by 49-year-old August Bennett traveling on the Northbound side of the highway.

Craig and Bennett were both wearing their seat belts and were taken to the hospital with moderate injures. Labat died on scene. It is not clear if he was wearing his seatbelt or not due to the severe damage done to his car.

Alcohol use in unknown. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
