NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - After a stormy Saturday, Sunday made for a fresh start as we headed into the first full week of the New Year. Clouds held on for most of the day as cold air pushed into the area.
Highs only made it into the upper 50's and low 60's. That is nearly 20 degrees below Saturday afternoon temperatures ahead of the front. Look for a couple of mostly sunny and chilly days for Monday and Tuesday, but there is even more cold to come as another front moves in for the middle of the week.
There will not be much in the way of moisture so the front moves through dry, but there will be plenty of frigid arctic air. We will be bracing for our first hard freeze of the year on Thursday morning.
We have already had a hard freeze this year on the north shore, but this one will be colder and it looks like the cold air sticks around for at least two days with highs in the 40's during the day Thursday.
Temperatures and moisture begin to rebound on Friday. By next weekend the next weather maker should be at hand bringing in rain for Saturday and Sunday.
