Burglar steals $250,000 painting from The Rodrigue Gallery

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A painting worth $250,000 was stolen Tuesday from the Rodrigue Gallery.

According to a Rodrigue spokesperson, the artwork was taken at 3:15 p.m. from the gallery located at 730 Royal Street. He says that a burglar took the painting, entitled "Wendy and Me", which depicted the late artist George Rodrigue as a blue dog dressed in a tuxedo standing next to his wife, Wendy who is dressed in a wedding gown. The artwork was used on George and Wendy's wedding invitation.

Detectives will review surveillance footage from the gallery.

"We are disappointed that someone would brazenly steal such a special piece of art from Dad's retrospective," George's son Jacques said. "We are confident that the hard-working officers of the New Orleans Police Department will safely recover this piece that is so important to our family."
