Drew Brees earns 7th straight Pro Bowl selection

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A 7-9 record is not what the always-optimistic Drew Brees had in mind for the Saints, but his individual play in 2014 has earned him another Pro Bowl appearance. It's his ninth overall selection; eighth as the quarterback of the Saints.

Brees threw for 4,952 yards and 33 touchdowns last season and will replace Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the game.

Brees surpasses former Saints Pro Football Hall of Fame tackle William Roaf (7) with the most selections in franchise history. It is Brees' seventh consecutive selection, dating back to the 2008 season, tying him with Roaf for the most consecutive Pro Bowl selections in team records.

The Pro Bowl is set for Sunday, Jan. 25 in Glendale, Arizona.

Despite their five and eight record, the New York Jets have been competitive in all but two games, a 45-20 loss at Oakland in week two and a 23 to nothing shutout in Denver last Sunday. It was to whom they lost last week, how they lost and whom they lost in the course of that embarrassing defeat that has the Saints installed as 16-point favorites.
