NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An 18-year-old man faces charges in connection to two home burglaries. Last week, Jeremy Crader was booked at Orleans Parish Prison with two simple burglaries, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm.
In a press release, the New Orleans Police Department says Crader broke into a Lakeview home on Sunday, January 4. It happened in the 74000 block of Jade Street. The following day, Crader allegedly burglarized a home in the 6300 block of Perlita Street in Gentilly. Investigators say the suspect was seen driving away in a silver SUV.
On January 7, investigators say an officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description used in the Perlita Street burglary in the area of Perlita and Rivera Streets. The officer ran the license plate and found it was reported stolen, but lost sight of the SUV.
The officer later found the vehicle with no one inside it in the 1800 block of Brutus Street. As the officer was canvassing the area, both the officer and Crader spotted each other. Crader allegedly tried to take off while throwing a bag containing marijuana and a handgun into a house's backyard. The officer managed to detain him.
Crader's bond has been set at $44,000.
