NOE grocery store owner robbed again after being targeted several times

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The owner of a New Orleans East grocery store says he's tired of being a victim.

“I have everything. I have cameras and nobody helps me. I am a businessman for 25 years, but when I go home, I'm scared for my business,” he said.

On Tuesday  just after 8:30 p.m., the victim closed his grocery store in the 9500 hundred block of Hayne Boulevard and began walking to his car. That's when a gunman rushed up to him.

“He put the gun on me and he told me, give me your money,” the victim said.

He said he could feel the gun pressed to his side, while the masked man's finger was on the trigger.

“He was shaking his hand and I was scared he'd kill me," the victim said. "I told him to slow down. In that moment, I thought about a lot of things. I thought about my family and my children. Who would take care of them?”

The store owner didn't resist. He handed over more than $2,200 in store cash, along with his wallet. The gunman grabbed the money and took off.
The store owner wasn't hurt, but he said it isn't the first time he's been targeted.

“Please, we need help. Come help us. Protect our business. It's too much. In two years, they broke into my store almost six times and took money. Enough is enough,” he said.

He believes more needs to be done, and he's making a plea to city leaders.
