NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - After two-and-a-half seasons being coached by a former teammate of his father's in Monty Williams, Austin Rivers is set to play for his dad, Doc, and the Los Angeles Clippers.
The club announced a deal Thursday that will send the 22-year-old to L.A. just days after being traded to Boston by the Pelicans. Rivers never suited up for the Celtics, presumably due to the imminent trade. The Pelicans also sent out Russ Smith in the trade, receiving Quincy Pondexter and a second-round pick.
Rivers was drafted 10th overall by New Orleans in the 2012 draft along with Anthony Davis. He will return to New Orleans to face the Pelicans Friday, Jan. 30.
For his career, he averages 6.8 points, 2.5 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 turnovers in 21.4 minutes per outing. He started 33 games, including 26 as a rookie before a broken hand ended his first campaign.
