NOPD: Two teens, one adult arrested for armed robbery, armed carjacking

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Two teenagers and one 20-year-old man were arrested by New Orleans Police for an armed robbery and armed carjacking. The armed robbery occurred Friday at 11 a.m. in the 13,000 block of Willowbrook Drive.

According to police, as the victim was getting out of her vehicle, a black car drove up next to her. Two of the four men inside of the car got out approached the woman. One man pulled out a gun and told the woman to give up her keys, which she did. The men attempted to start the woman's car, but were unsuccessful. The men then got out of the victim's car and drove away in the black car with the victim's keys still in their possession.

At 4:30 p.m. that same day, an officer spotted a car matching the description of the one used in the earlier robbery and pursued it. Following a brief chase, the car crashed at the intersection of Lake Forest and Michoud Boulevards. All five men in the car got out and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Police set up a perimeter and apprehended all five individuals. After further investigation, detectives determined that three of the five taken into custody were responsible for the armed robbery that occurred earlier in the day, as well as, an armed carjacking that took place Thursday at the intersection of Burgundy and Reynes Streets. The three were identified as 20-year-old Nishawn Critney, and two juveniles, ages 14 and 15. They were booked with the carjacking and armed robbery. The other two individuals in the car, both identified as juveniles, were not charged and released.

Detectives are still investigating and are trying to determine if the trio are responsible for additional crimes. If you have any information that could help detectives with this case, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
