NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Saints have hired former Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen as a senior defensive assistant, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Allen previously worked as a defensive assistant for the Saints from 2006-2010. He left the Saints to pursue a defensive coordinator promotion with the Broncos.
After just one year in Denver, Allen was hired as the Raiders' head coach in 2012. He was fired by the Raiders in his third season following an 0-4 start to the 2014 season. He was 8-28 during his tenure
Allen will work with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
Schefter also reported that the Saints will bring in former Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland to do college scouting. Ireland was the Dolphins' general manager from 2008-2013.
