SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's detectives are looking for a Slidell-area man who they say is responsible for a carjacking Monday in the parking lot of a Slidell hotel.

At about 6:15 a.m., Police said 30-year-old Jonathan Lane Roberts, of Duncan Street, approached a man at a gas station on Old Spanish Trail and asked him for a ride to the next exit. The victim gave Roberts a ride and dropped him off at the Oak Harbor exit near the Sleep Inn.

As the victim was helping Roberts remove his belongings from the truck, Roberts hit him in the chest with what was believed to be a handgun and fled in the man's black 1996 GMC Sierra pick-up truck with Louisiana license plate W831148.

Roberts is wanted on warrants for carjacking and aggravated battery. Additional charges are possible.

Roberts is 6' tall, weighs 180-185, and has light brown, short straight hair, hazel eyes and a mole on his left cheek. Police said he has ties to the Bogalusa area as well as to the west bank, Chalmette and Metairie.

Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
