A fine finish to the day, but rain on the way

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

This afternoon proves to be the last really nice day in the great stretch we have had this week. Enjoy the sunshine and pleasant temperatures in the mid- and upper-60s.

For the rest of this afternoon, we can expect sunny skies with a few passing clouds. Tonight will be nice with temperatures in the low 50s under partly cloudy skies.

Early Thursday should stay dry at least through mid-day, and then we will see some major changes. An upper system out west will push east and help develop a Gulf low that increases moisture along the coast.

That increase in moisture builds clouds across the area as it moves over cooler air at the surface. The increased cloud cover will keep temperatures in the 50s. The day will bring overcast skies with showers and storms by the afternoon.

This is not a set-up that lends itself to severe weather, but we can expect quite a bit of rainfall overnight Thursday and into Friday. Some areas may see anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of soaking rain. There is a silver lining, as the rain should move out during the day Friday, allowing sunshine to return for the weekend.

Highs will be in the 50s and lows in the 30s, so you just have to get through a couple of uncomfortable days. After the stormy weather we will remain sunny and chilly into next week.
