NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Fans at Wednesday night's Pelicans-Lakers game say they're shocked to hear of Rita Benson Leblanc's ouster, and they hope the changes within the Benson organization don't affect the future of the Pels or the Saints.
"They gotta do what they gotta do, but I think it's fine the way it is, myself," said one fan.
"It's a big news," said another. "I don't know what his plans are, but I hope it works out for them."
Most didn't know about the developments, but when we brought them up to speed, most said they were surprised because they didn't know there was anything amiss between Mr. Benson and Rita Benson Leblanc. Rita can usually be found sitting courtside at the Pelicans games and is always a fixture at Saints games.
"It's just part of a family," a fan said. "I don't understand why they would ever get rid of her. Something really bad must have happened."
Fans say she's as recognizable a team figure as Mr. Benson himself and made a name for herself in the NFL. Most fans said it'll be a change not to see her around as much.
"It was unexpected - very unexpected," another fan said. "I just think that - I would have thought that they would have done something better."
All of the fans we spoke to said they are hopeful the developments will lead to good things for both teams.
